The listing taxonomy was significantly expanded on August 26, 2025, with the release of a new category structure containing over 200 granular subcategories. This expansion addressed a long-standing community request for more specific categorization that would improve search relevance and vendor organization. The old category system had approximately 80 categories, resulting in overly broad buckets that made comparison shopping difficult and search results imprecise. The new structure introduces up to three levels of category depth top-level categories, subcategories, and item-type granularity allowing vendors to be much more specific about their offerings. Key category expansions include the drugs and pharmaceuticals section (previously 12 subcategories, now 34), digital goods (previously 8, now 27), and security tools (previously 5, now 18). Each new subcategory was accompanied by updated listing guidelines covering acceptable content, required information fields, and category-specific rating criteria. Existing listings were automatically migrated to the most appropriate new subcategory during a migration process that ran in the background over a 48-hour window. Vendors were notified of any category changes to their listings and given the opportunity to manually select a more specific subcategory. The expanded category structure also powers improved search functionality the updated search algorithm uses subcategory weighting to provide more relevant results when users enter category-specific search terms.
