Vendor Feedback Algorithm Updated: Recency Weighting Improved

Vendor feedback algorithm recency weighting

The vendor feedback algorithm received an update on September 19, 2025 that significantly improved how vendor ratings reflect current performance rather than historical patterns. The previous algorithm weighted all reviews equally regardless of age, meaning a vendor could maintain a high composite score based on old positive feedback even while recent reviews turned negative. The updated algorithm applies an exponential decay function to older reviews, giving recent transactions progressively more influence on the composite rating. Reviews from the past 30 days have full weight; reviews from 31-90 days are weighted at 70%; reviews from 91-180 days at 40%; and older reviews at 20%. This means vendors who have improved their service over time see their ratings improve faster, while vendors whose performance has declined face a quicker rating correction. The update also introduces new rating dimensions beyond the existing 1-5 star scale: product accuracy (does the item match the description), stealth quality (how well packaged for delivery discretion), communication speed (vendor response time), and overall satisfaction. These dimension scores are displayed on vendor profiles separately from the composite rating, giving buyers more granular information for purchase decisions. The rating dimension scores are factored into the search ranking algorithm, providing an additional signal for listing relevance beyond the composite star rating.
